Common questions
What does the Bible say about communion?
Jesus shared bread and wine with his disciples at the Last Supper and told them to do it in remembrance of him (Luke 22:19). Paul gives the fullest instructions in 1 Corinthians 11:23-26 and tells believers to examine themselves first (11:28).
Why do Christians take communion?
To remember Jesus' death. Paul says in 1 Corinthians 11:26 that each time believers eat the bread and drink the cup they proclaim the Lord's death until he comes. Churches differ on what happens in the bread and cup, but all point to Christ.
